Paraphrase: (6/8/00)
1 So, whenever you judge another you leave yourself with no excuse, for what you condemn in others is the very thing you yourself do. 2 And we know that these things bring God's righteous judgement on their practitioners. 3 What are you thinking? That judging the wrong of another will somehow excuse you for doing the same wrong?
Key Verse: (6/8/00)
2:1 - We judge others instead of ourselves for our faults, leaving ourselves unexcused.
New Thoughts (6/9/00)
How many times have I seen this idea proved in my own life? It's so true that the things that really bug us about those we deal with are the things we ought to be dealing with ourselves on. We know our ways aren't up to snuff, but we can gloss that over in ourselves. It's the other folks we can't get past it in. How much I need to look to my own house, to get my own attitudes and behaviors in line with my own beliefs. Especially as I try to instill proper values and behaviors in my daughter - how, if my own example doesn't fit what I ask of her? Oh God, You know me so well. And I know You have been on the move once again to answer my prayers quickly. I thank You. This pride, this arrogance, this need to be right at all costs, it has to go. You know it, I know it, doubtless everybody around me knows it. Lord, I need that servant's heart, that willingness to put others' needs ahead of my own. I need humility. Come, Lord. Do as You must to free me of these chains of attitude. Forgive me, oh God, for taking so long to seek Your help. Free me.
