Paraphrase

13 There's much more that could be said, but not by the remoteness of a letter. 14 Rather, John hopes to come soon and speak with Gaius directly. Peace is his wish for one in such a place. Greetings are given and sought between friends.

Key Verse

14 - Being reminded of our friends in a way answers the request for peace.

Thematic Relevance:

The hope of a visit by one whose faith is strong is an encouragement. The gentle reminder that he has friends both at home and abroad ought to strengthen him as well.

Doctrinal Relevance:

None.

Moral Relevance:

We should exercise personal communication wherever possible, for it is a stronger encouragement. Where it's not possible, though, a short letter is encouraging as well. We need to remind each other often that we're not alone.
